Telecom Italia Wins 3 Italian WiMAX Licences

Telecom Italia has won three of the 35 WiMAX licences available in Italy as the ongoing auction enters a defining stage. The Italian communications ministry said yesterday that the bids had reached a total of 136.3 million euro (US$207.2 million). Telecom Italia won the frequencies in three "macro areas"—the central region states of Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo and Molise; the southern region states of Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria; and the island of Sardinia.
